Ken Sinclair of Automated Buildings talks about what it means to be a Building Whisperer

In this episode, Ken Sinclair of Automated Buildings talks to the Real Estate Tech Guys about what it means to be a Building Whisperer.

According to Ken, a building whisperer needs to understand the purpose, the reason, the culture of the building, and then make the building adapt to that. Buildings have become more hotels, the workforce has become more inhabitants than occupants. An added wrinkle is that people are sharing space more, which adds to the complexity. No longer is there one client. Now there may be multiple clients in a single space. We have to follow the software vision and figure out how buildings interact with people. The humanistic value proposition in building is the only value proposition going now because the workforce no longer wants to sit at cubicle. They are free spirited and remote.

Digital mindfulness is another emerging concept. The blizzard of information that daily falls on us both overwhelms and frustrates us. Sometimes this is called “attention hijacking,” when we are diverted from a focused thought through the constant availability of information. Instead of making us more productive, it actually reduces our productivity. Even still, there are some experiences in our digital lives that we like and we cherish those. Finding the balance in all of this is the key and we need apps that interact with us.
