I spent my summer at CrowdComfort improving their end user app and building their new manager app, both on iOS. Before this internship, I had minimal experience with front-end development, including app development. My manager taught me the fundamentals of iOS and how to use Xcode, and then he gave me freedom to build the new features we needed. I gained valuable programming experience and also thoroughly enjoyed working for a startup. Working for a smaller company meant I always felt up-to-date with things that were happening and everyone – including our CEO – knew me by name. I didn’t feel like an intern; I was part of the team.
As an intern who had never joined a startup before, I was unsure what to expect on day one. I knew that I would be working for the company doing research into machine learning, but I did not know who I would be working for or what kind of research they would have me do. When I arrived at the office, I found the whole team sitting around one table, from Development to Marketing to Operations. I was able to say “hi” and talk to almost every person here about what they did and about my own goals. Over the next few weeks, I found that working at CrowdComfort didn’t mean I was working for some boss doing something they wanted: It meant that I was working as a valued member of a team, applying my expertise in the ways I felt I could best push our company and our vision forward.
The best part of my time at CrowdComfort has not been the friendly team, the open company culture, or the excitement I feel in the air working here. It has been participating in a company that values my input, uses my code, and treats me not as an intern, but as an equal and a friend.
My internship with CrowdComfort has been an amazing experience. I was originally hired to support the Account Manager, but quickly developed an interest in Product and Project Management. I was encouraged to explore all of these areas and given the chance to wear many hats. The company leaders are always open to new ideas and very clearly care about creating an engaging work experience: this is probably the fourth or fifth time I’ve been asked about my internship. CrowdComfort is the perfect place to intern if you’d like to both learn extensively about the green tech industry and be a driving force in company growth.
CrowdComfort is as much a family as it is a company. Although there are plenty of different personalities on the team, every employee feeds off each other’s energy and brings an incredibly positive attitude to the team.
Future computer scientists, programmers, and developers welcome! Help make the CrowdComfort technology even better by working directly with our senior engineers!
